DENVER, Colo.— The Center for Biological Diversity Action Fund and Oil Change Action today announced their endorsement of Julie Gonzales for U.S Senator for Colorado.

As a state senator since 2018, Gonzales has championed pro-people and pro-environment policies. She is facing Sen. John Hickenlooper in the June primary.

“Julie Gonzales will work every day in the U.S. Senate to protect what Coloradans cherish: clean air, flowing rivers and our beloved public lands,” said Alli Henderson, Colorado political director at the Center for Biological Diversity Action Fund. “In contrast, Sen. Hickenlooper has been far too cozy his entire career with the frackers and polluters that have poisoned the Front Range’s air quality. The choice is clear and it’s time for a change.”

Gonzales is an outspoken supporter of a clean energy transition and takes stands to defy the decades of inaction on the climate crisis. Representing a community with some of the highest pollution in the country, she has supported legislation to reduce exposure to harmful toxins and hold Big Oil accountable. As the current chair of the Judiciary Committee in the Colorado Senate, Gonzales is committed to the oversight and accountability that’s critical for defending democracy and the environment.

“Coloradans deserve a senator who puts what’s best for working families over corporate profits, and that is Julie Gonzales. Oil Change Action is excited to endorse her for U.S. Senate. For too long, incumbent Sen. Hickenlooper has prioritized his oil and gas donors over Coloradans’ health and safety, their right to drink clean water and breathe clean air, and our climate,” said Allie Rosenbluth, U.S. campaign manager at Oil Change Action. “Julie Gonzales’ experience as state senator and her commitment to her community and the environment make her the ideal candidate for U.S. Senate.”

Today, Oil Change Action and Center for Biological Diversity Action endorsed Nate Blouin, who is running for Congress in Utah’s first congressional district. A current State Senator, Blouin has spent his career advocating for renewable energy, public lands, and Utah’s working families.

Blouin is a fierce critic of unchecked data center development, and is working to stop construction of the celebrity-backed Stratos data center, which would pollute Utahns’ air, raise their energy bills, and worsen the climate crisis that’s already impacting communities across the country.

In Congress, Blouin will stand up to Republicans’ attacks on our democracy, our communities, and our climate, including through fighting for a Green New Deal.

    Statements:

“We are thrilled to endorse Nate Blouin for Congress. As a state senator, Blouin has shown himself to be unafraid to challenge wannabe billionaires like Kevin O’Leary and corporate special interests to protect working families’ air, water, and future. We can’t wait to see him take this fight to Congress.” —Allie Rosenbluth, U.S. Campaign Manager, Oil Change Action

“Nate Blouin knows that Utah’s natural heritage is worth protecting. His leadership on clean energy and conservation makes him a strong advocate for the lands, wildlife and communities that depend on a healthy environment, and we’re proud to endorse him for Congress.” —Brett Hartl, National Political Director, Center for Biological Diversity Action Fund

Today, Oil Change Action and Friends of the Earth Action announced their endorsement of Janeese Lewis George for Mayor of Washington, D.C.

As a member of the D.C. Council, Lewis George has proven to be a champion for climate justice, environmental accountability, and affordable clean energy. She has consistently advanced policies that put working people ahead of fossil fuel industry profits and corporate polluters.

Earlier this year, Lewis George introduced the District’s “Make Polluters Pay” legislation, which would study the financial costs climate change is imposing on the city and lay the groundwork for requiring major fossil fuel corporations to compensate D.C. taxpayers for climate damages. At the bill’s introduction, George stated that “Climate change is not a distant threat for the District – it is already shaping our infrastructure, our public health, and our daily lives.”

Lewis George has also backed efforts to green DC buildings, reduce lower-income residents’ utility bills, and limit rising energy costs for all DC residents. She supports adding bus and bike lanes, ending food deserts, and reducing citywide greenhouse gas emissions by following laws already on the books.

As Washington, D.C. faces threats from Trump’s takeover, attacks on immigrant neighbors, and on home rule, Lewis George is a leading voice against federal overreach and authoritarianism. She has spoken out forcefully against ICE intimidation tactics and efforts by national Republicans to undermine the District’s autonomy and target vulnerable residents for political gain.

Oil Change Action and Friends of the Earth Action believe this is exactly the kind of bold, values-driven progressive leadership D.C. needs: a leader willing to stand up to corporate polluters, defend democratic rights, and fight for communities.

Allie Rosenbluth, Campaign Manager at Oil Change Action, said:

“Janeese Lewis George understands that the climate crisis and the affordability crisis are deeply connected. While fossil fuel companies continue to rake in massive profits, D.C. residents are paying the price through rising utility bills and growing inequality. Janeese has been a leader in fighting to hold polluters accountable, expand access to affordable clean energy, and build a city that works for working people instead of corporate interests. A lifelong Washingtonian and Ward 4 councilmember, Lewis George has built her political career around the idea that government should work for ordinary people, not wealthy corporations and special interests. Oil Change Action is proud to endorse her campaign for Mayor of Washington, D.C.”

Ariel Moger, Director of Public Affairs for Friends of the Earth Action, said:

“Friends of the Earth Action is thrilled to endorse Janeese Lewis George for Mayor of Washington, D.C. because she really gets it. Lewis George is running a people-focused campaign, grounded in community and working toward a future in which all D.C. residents can thrive. As mayor, Lewis George won’t just talk about environmental justice, she’ll demand it; fighting for climate action, access to healthy food, and safe transportation options. We urge voters to support Lewis George and the bold, fearless leadership she will bring to Washington, D.C.”

  • National Environmental Groups Endorse Graham Platner for U.S. Senate

National Environmental Groups Endorse Graham Platner for U.S. Senate

Today, Oil Change Action, Center for Biological Diversity Action Fund, Climate Hawks Vote, GrayPAC, Food & Water Action, and Friends of the Earth Action,  endorsed Graham Platner for U.S. Senate. Platner is challenging longtime Republican senator Susan Collins in Maine.

The announcement comes days after Platner announced an energy plan that, among other things, endorses a windfall profits tax on oil corporations. Platner has also repeatedly voiced support for a data center moratorium. Platner is an oyster farmer, veteran, and advocate for working people who was born and raised in Maine. A bold progressive willing to shake up the status quo, he is outspoken on the need to end fossil fuel expansion; hold the fossil fuel industry accountable; and protect Maine’s economy, natural resources, and communities from the climate crisis and extractive corporations.

Platner signed the No Fossil Fuel Money Pledge, a promise not to accept campaign contributions over $200 from the industry and prioritize Maine communities over Big Oil profits. Meanwhile, Senator Collins has accepted at least $744,816 in industry donations over the course of her career and just last week, voiced support for expanded gas pipeline infrastructure in Maine.

Platner’s experience as a veteran of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan makes him deeply critical of militarism around the globe, including the senseless, devastating war on Iran motivated by Trump’s desire to control the country’s oil resources, among other factors.

Platner has sparked unprecedented grassroots enthusiasm across the state of Maine, holding dozens of packed rallies attracting tens of thousands of Mainers eager for an alternative to the status quo. His commitment to progressive values and environmental protection make him an ideal foil to Senator Collins, who has spent the last 29 years in Congress enabling corporate polluters’ agenda at every turn.

    Quotes:

Allie Rosenbluth, Campaign Manager, Oil Change Action, said:

“Graham Platner is running to reclaim our democracy from corporate special interests, including Big Oil, which pours millions of dollars a year into our political system to keep our country hooked on expensive, polluting fossil fuels. In Congress, Graham will put Mainers first by transitioning to clean, affordable renewable energy and protecting communities and local economies from the climate crisis. We are proud to support Graham’s fight for a better political system, a better Maine, and a better future.”

Erich Pica, President, Friends of the Earth Action, said:

“Friends of the Earth Acton is excited to endorse Graham Platner for the U.S. Senate. We need a fighter in the Senate who will put people and the planet first, and Platner will do just that. He is exactly what Maine needs in a leader – bold, responsive, and unafraid to hold corporations accountable for harming communities and the environment. We strongly encourage Mainers to send Platner to Washington, D.C. as their next U.S. Senator.”

Sam Bernhardt, Political Director, Food & Water Action, said:

“High energy bills are on the ballot in Maine and Graham Platner has a plan to deliver the relief communities need. Fossil fuel corporations have spent decades profiteering off pollution while driving families into debt, endangering critical natural resources, and threatening a livable climate. Industry’s deeply unpopular date center push promises more of the same. Platner has the bold vision needed to hold corporations accountable, and right the ship.”

RL Miller, political director of Climate Hawks Vote, said:

“Graham Platner is the fighter Maine needs. Our Maine climate hawks have been excited to endorse Graham, not just because he’s not-Susan-Collins, but because he actually has a vision to make positive change for Mainers. And that begins with lowering their sky-high utility bills and making polluters pay for the damage they’re inflicting on hardworking Maine families.”

Mike Johnson, Democracy Campaigns Manager with GrayPAC, said:

“It is notable to GrayPAC that Graham Platner’s campaign is based on the need for determined leadership to do what can be done, rather than an excuse for what can’t. Elders in Maine are excited that he will be a voice for their values and that he will fight to lower costs and build resilient communities.”

Stephanie Kurose, Northeast Political Director, Center for Biological Diversity Action Fund, said:

“Maine deserves someone like Graham Platner who isn’t afraid to stand up to powerful special interests to protect Maine’s communities and natural heritage,” said Stephanie Kurose, Northeast political director at the Center for Biological Diversity Action Fund. “At a time when pollution, corporate influence and mounting pressures are putting Maine’s lands, waters and wildlife at risk, Platner is ready to take decisive action to protect the state’s future.”
