    BOSTON— The Center for Biological Diversity Action Fund and Oil Change Action, the 501(c)(4) political arm of the Center for Biological Diversity and Oil Change International respectively, announced today its endorsement of incumbent Sen. Ed Markey from Massachusetts for reelection to the U.S. Senate.

    “Sen. Markey has long been one of Congress’ most visionary and relentless champions for clean air and water and our shared natural heritage,” said Brett Hartl, national political director at the Center for Biological Diversity Action Fund. “He’s been an extraordinary environmental leader who takes bold action and isn’t afraid to stand up to bullies like Trump and his extremist allies in Congress. We’re honored to endorse him and excited to watch him amp up the fight.”

    Throughout his career in Congress — first as a U.S. representative and then as a senator — Sen. Markey has championed groundbreaking climate and environmental legislation, including co-authoring the Green New Deal. His leadership has helped advance critical policies to strengthen environmental protections, hold corporate polluters accountable, and safeguard public lands and imperiled wildlife.

    “Sen.     Sen. Markey received a 100% lifetime score on the Action Fund’s environmental scorecard, meaning he has taken the pro-environmental stance on every vote scored.

    Rep. Seth Moulton (MA-06), who is challenging Sen. Markey for the Democratic nomination, received a 77%. In 2023 Moulton voted for legislation that included approving the Mountain Valley Pipeline, an ecological and climate disaster that threatens one of the largest remaining wild landscapes in the eastern United States. Sen. Markey voted against the bill.

    Moulton also failed to support the Environmental Justice for All Act, one of the most comprehensive environmental justice bills in history. Sen. Markey was one of the original cosponsors of the Senate bill.

    Today, Food & Water Action, Oil Change Action, Center for Biological Diversity Action Fund, Climate Hawks Vote, GrayPAC, and Friends of the Earth Action endorsed Will Lawrence and Donavan McKinney for U.S. House in Michigan’s 7th and 13th Congressional District, respectively.

    The announcement comes as Michigan reels from over a dozen widely-opposed hyper-scale data center proposals across 11 counties. Both candidates support a nationwide data center moratorium proposed by Senator Bernie Sanders. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has announced plans to introduce accompanying House legislation imminently.

    Lawrence is a long time climate organizer and co-founder of the nationwide Sunrise Movement. In contrast, his primary opponent Bridget Brink held a campaign fundraiser last week hosted by the head of international government relations at ExxonMobil. McKinney is a state Representative representing his native northeast Detroit, and an outspoken proponent of environmental justice. In the state legislature, McKinney fought for and secured important advancements in water accessibility and affordability, including over $600 million in funding to replace lead water pipes in the Detroit metro area. Both candidates are vocal about ending fossil fuel expansion, holding the fossil fuel industry accountable, and protecting Michiganders’ health, air and water from the climate crisis and polluting corporations.

    As a state senator since 2018, Gonzales has championed pro-people and pro-environment policies. She is facing Sen. John Hickenlooper in the June primary.

    Today, Oil Change Action and Friends of the Earth Action announced their endorsement of Janeese Lewis George for Mayor of Washington, D.C.

    As a member of the D.C. Council, Lewis George has proven to be a champion for climate justice, environmental accountability, and affordable clean energy. She has consistently advanced policies that put working people ahead of fossil fuel industry profits and corporate polluters.

    Earlier this year, Lewis George introduced the District’s “Make Polluters Pay” legislation, which would study the financial costs climate change is imposing on the city and lay the groundwork for requiring major fossil fuel corporations to compensate D.C. taxpayers for climate damages. At the bill’s introduction, George stated that “Climate change is not a distant threat for the District – it is already shaping our infrastructure, our public health, and our daily lives.”

    Espinosa brings deep experience fighting for environmental justice

    National environmental groups Oil Change Action, Friends of the Earth Action, Climate Hawks Vote, and Center for Biological Diversity Action Fund have endorsed Chris Espinosa for California’s 26th Congressional District ahead of the June 2 primary election.

    A fourth-generation Californian, Espinosa has dedicated his career to fighting for civil rights, workers’ rights, healthcare, and environmental justice. With Earthjustice’s Clean Water team, he saw firsthand how the Flint, Michigan, water crisis devastated marginalized communities. As a senior staff member in Congress, he helped advance some of the most comprehensive and inclusive environmental justice legislation ever proposed. As a co-founder of GreenLatinos, Espinosa co-created a space to bring together Latino leaders to secure “political, economic, cultural, and environmental liberation.” 

    Espinosa understands environmental challenges and the clear and present danger they present to our communities. California’s 26th Congressional District overlaps with Ventura County, the fastest-warming county in the continental United States. The area has been hit hard by devastating wildfires, including the Thomas and Woolsey Fires.

    As a member of Congress, Espinosa will support a moratorium on artificial intelligence (AI) data centers and hold polluters accountable through federal legislation.     National Environmental Groups Endorse Chris Rabb for Congress in Pennsylvania’s 3rd District

    Rep. Rabb is the climate champion in this race

    National environmental groups Oil Change Action, Food & Water Action, Center for Biological Diversity Action Fund, Climate Hawks Vote, and Friends of the Earth Action are endorsing State Representative Chris Rabb for Pennsylvania’s 3rd Congressional District ahead of the May 19th primary election. 

    As a State Representative in Harrisburg, Rabb has been a climate leader, founding the Pennsylvania legislature’s Climate Caucus and recently advocating for a halt to data center expansion. As a member of Congress, Rabb would hold polluters accountable through federal legislation like the Make Polluters Pay Act that would force fossil fuel companies to pay for their climate-related damages.

    National Environmental Groups Endorse Analilia Mejía for Congress in New Jersey’s 11th District

    Move Signals Consolidation around Special Primary Winner

    National environmental groups Oil Change Action, Food & Water Action, Climate Hawks Vote, Center for Biological Diversity Action Fund, and GrayPAC are endorsing Analilia Mejía in all elections this year in New Jersey’s 11th Congressional District. 

    Mejía won the Democratic nomination by campaigning on a progressive environmental platform including stopping the costly data center buildout, improving New Jersey’s public transportation infrastructure, and holding polluters accountable with legislation like the Make Polluters Pay act. 

    Mejía won the February 4 special primary election to nab the Democratic nomination for New Jersey’s 11th Congressional District, advancing to the April 16 special election against Republican Joe Hathaway. Mejía is the prohibitive favorite to win and serve out the remainder now-Gov. Mikie Sherrill’s term. Mejía is also concurrently running for election in the 2026 midterm election. Former Rep. Tom Malinowski and Essex County Commissioner Brendan Gill, both of whom ran against Mejía in the February 4 primary, have endorsed her, as have Sen. Corey Booker, Sen. Andy Kim, Rep. Lamonica McIver, and other members of New Jersey’s congressional delegation.
